Crazy Rich Asians producer partner RSVP, Roy Kapur Films for The Sky is Pink

Producers Siddharth Roy Kapur and Ronnie Screwvala have come together for a host of projects. The duo is producing director Shonali Bose’s The Sky is Pink that stars Priyanka Chopra, Zaira Wasim and Farhan Akhtar.

This is Chopra’s first full-fledged role in Hindi cinema after her work in American TV series, Quantico.

Given her global popularity, it’s natural for Kapur and Screwvvala to look at global distribution. Roy Kapur Films and RSVP have received a boost after getting Ivanhoe Pictures, an American production house, as a partner on The Sky Is Pink.

“Partnering with Ivanhoe will help us leverage their strong distribution prowess in non-traditional markets for Indian films, while in turn, this collaboration strengthens their association with the Indian film industry,” Roy Kapur said in a statement.

The Sky Is Pink is based on motivational speaker Aisha Chaudhary who was diagnosed with pulmonary fibrosis.

Ivanhoe Pictures was founded in 2013. In March 2017, Ivanhoe merged with Sidney Kimmel Entertainment, the Los Angeles-based production-finance company, to create SK Global, a new company which produces and finances film and TV projects globally.

Backed and co-founded by Sidney Kimmel (Jones New York) and Robert Friedland (Ivanhoe Mines), the venture is overseen by John Penotti, seasoned president and producer who has led companies such as GreeneStreet Films, Ivanhoe Pictures, and Sidney Kimmel Entertainment (SKE). SK Global has retained the labels “Sidney Kimmel Entertainment” and “Ivanhoe Pictures” in their respective markets.

Ivanhoe Pictures has produced the popular romantic comedy Crazy Rich Asians (2018).

Chopra, who last seen in Hindi cinema in a limited role in Prakash Jha’s Jai Gangaajal (2016), was initially supposed to return to Hindi cinema with Bharat, produced by Salman Khan.

She was signed on for Bharat, but a few days before the shoot was to commence, Chopra backed out of the Khan-starrer film. Soon after departing from Bharat, she took up Shonali Bose’s The Sky Is Pink. Chopra and Akhtar are reportedly playing parents to Wasim in the film.

Chopra recently married American singer Nick Jonas. The actress is now expected to resume the shoot for The Sky Is Pink.
