Jyotika shines as an ambitious housewife in Tumhari Sulu remake

The trailer of Jyotika-starrer Kaatrin Mozhi, the Tamil version of Vidya Balan-starrer Tumhari Sulu (2017), was released on Thursday and going by the visuals, it looks like a faithful remake of the original. Directed by Radha Mohan and produced by G Dhananjayan, the film marks the reunion of the director and Jyotika after a decade since Mozhi (2007).

The trailer introduces Jyotika, who plays Vijayalakshmi, as a hardworking housewife who wins a contest on a radio show which eventually lands her a job as a radio jockey. How does she juggle between managing her family and keeping her job forms the crux of the film.

Vidharth plays Jyotika’s husband in the film, which is gearing up for a 16 November 16 release worldwide. The film also stars Lakshmi Manchu and MS Bhaskar in key roles, while Yogi Babu and Simbu will be seen in cameos. The trailer gives us a quick glimpse of Simbu’s character in the film.

On signing the project, Jyotika said in a statement: “I’m a big Vidya (Balan) fan. I love her voice and command over Hindi, which is rare in Bollywood today. I’ve watched every Vidya film, and Tumhari Sulu, in my opinion, is her most lovable work. I feel honoured to be stepping into her shoes. Kudos to the producers and to Suresh (Triveni) for making such a lively, honest, real and feel-good film. Tumhari Sulu is a hugely special film for me.”

Speaking to reporters at a press meet in Chennai recently, Jyotika said that Kaatrin Mozhi is a really special film for her. She thanked Radha Mohan for agreeing to direct it and said that their plans to work again after Mozhi finally got fulfilled with this project.
