Madhur Bhandarkar’s Inspector Ghalib based on Uttar Pradesh’s sand mafia

After delving into an Emergency period drama in his last film, Indu Sarkar (2017), filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar has announced that his next film, Inspector Ghalib, will be on the sand mafia in Uttar Pradesh.

The pre-production work will start once the filmmaker finalizes his cast.

“It’s official. Madhur Bhandarkar’s next film is titled #InspectorGhalib. Based on sand mafia… Will star a top name. Casting under finalization… Starts mid-2019,” tweeted trade analyst Taran Adarsh.

Confirming the news, Bhandarkar said in a note, “We are making Inspector Ghalib, but it is too early to say anything else about the film right now.”

Sources close to the film added that Inspector Ghalib is inspired from true events. “Based on the sand mafia in Uttar Pradesh, the film will be a quirky, witty drama. Madhur Bhandarkar has been doing research on the sand mafia in UP for 6-7 months now,” said the source.
