My son Aarav wanted me to be in the digital space

Akshay Kumar’s fans would be pleasantly surprised to know that their favourite actor will be making his web-series debut with an as yet untitled Amazon Prime Video original series.

An announcement to this effect was made by the actor today at an event in Mumbai in the presence of top executives from the streaming platform.

Akshay Kumar said it was his son Aarav who inspired him to make his web-series debut. “He actually told me, ‘Dad, you have to get into the digital world.’ And I have to follow the youth. I think he is my teacher. I learn from him. That is how I decided I want to get into it. And what bigger platform than Amazon?”

Asked about the show he will be appearing in, the actor said, “There is too much of action! It’s a human story. Obviously it’s a fictional story, but it’s a human story. I can’t talk much about it, what the story is going to be. But it’s going to be a fun and entertaining one.”

Akshay Kumar was on fire, literally, as he made his stylized entry at the event at Mumbai’s Royal Western India Turf Club. This should give readers an indication of the high-octane action they can expect from the web-series.

Jennifer Salke, worldwide head of Amazon Studios, expressed her delight at having Akshay Kumar on board. “How great it is to have him in the centre of the show,” she said. There is nothing more important for Amazon than delivering high-quality addictive one-hour television for our global customers. And to have someone of his stature at the centre of the show that really keeps you at the edge of your seat is just a dream come true.”

The web-series will be co-produced by Abundantia Entertainment, which was associated with Amazon for the Breathe series starring R Madhavan. The title, director and the rest of the cast of the new web-series will be revealed later.
