New release dates for Taanaji and Pagalpanti; Kartik Aaryan announces Pati Patni Aur Woh date

There are new release dates for Ajay Devgn’s Taanaji: The Unsung Warrior (2020) and Anees Bazmee’s Pagalpanti (2019) while the release date of director Mudaasar Aziz’s Pati Patni Aur Woh has been announced.

Taanaji, which was earlier scheduled to be released on 22 November 2019, has been pushed back to 10 January 2020. The period film is based on the life of Maratha warrior Tanaji Malusare. Devgn tweeted the new releases date.

Tanaji Malusare was one of the generals of the seventeenth century Maratha unifier Shivaji and is renowned for his fight to the finish in the battle for Sinhagad in 1670 between the Maratha forces and a Mughal garrison led by Udaybhan Rathod.

Popular legend has it that Tanaji left his son’s wedding to lead his troops into battle at Shivaji’s bidding. The folk tale states that Tanaji and his men used a domesticated Bengal monitor lizard, known colloquially as a ghorpad, named Yashwanti to ascend the fort, which was believed to be impregnable, from the cliff side and surprised the garrison stationed there. While the Marathas took the fort after a fierce fight, Tanaji was killed.

Anees Bazmee’s multi-starrer comedy Pagalpanti, which was earlier scheduled to be released on 6 December, has advanced its release date to 22 November. Pagalpanti stars John Abraham, Anil Kapoor, Arshad Warsi, Ileana D’Cruz, Pulkit Samrat and Kriti Kharbanda.

T-Series, which is producing the film, announced the new release date on Twitter.

Meanwhile, Kartik Aaryan, Bhumi Pednekar and Ananya Pandey’s Pati Patni Aur Woh is now set to take up the 6 December slot.

Aaryan announced the release date of the film on his Instagram account and also hinted that his character name is Chintu Tyagi.

“Chintu Tyagi, Patni Aur Woh ke saath aa rahe hain 6 December 2019 ko,” he posted.

Directed by Mudassar Aziz, Pati Patni Aur Woh is an official remake of the 1978 BR Chopra hit of the same name. The original film starred Sanjeev Kumar, Vidya Sinha and Ranjeeta Kaur. Aaryan steps into Sanjeev Kumar’s shoes while Pednekar plays his wife and Pandey the secretary with whom he has an affair.
