Overwhelming to see Badhaai Ho cross the Rs100 crore mark, says director Amit Ravindernath Sharma

Ayushmann Khurrana has scored his maiden Rs100 crore hit with Badhaai Ho. It is a moment to celebrate not just for Khurrana, but also for director Amit Ravindernath Sharma.

Speaking to Cinestaan.com, Sharma said, “It’s overwhelming to see Badhaai Ho cross the Rs100 crore mark. Feels like a dream. A big thank you to the audience for showing its love and support.”

The filmmaker had begun his career with the documentary Tedhi Lakeer (2004) before making his maiden feature film Tevar (2015). The film starring Arjun Kapoor and Manoj Bajpayee failed to make an impact at the box office and was panned by critics as well.

Produced by Junglee Pictures, Badhaai Ho has ushered in change in the director’s career. The social comedy tells the tale of a family that deals with the unexpected pregnancy of middle-aged mother Priyamvada Kaushik, played by Neena Gupta.

The film made Rs9.50 crore nett in its third weekend, which helped it reach a collection of Rs102 crore nett. The film collected an impressive Rs1.25 crore on the following Monday (5 November), thereby taking its collection to Rs103.64 crore nett. 

Made at an estimated budget of Rs30 crore, Badhaai Ho was released on 2,000 screens across India.

Holdover release Baazaar continued to slide as it bagged just Rs50 lakh nett on Monday. Made at an estimated cost of Rs40 crore, Baazaar was also released on 2,000 screens across the country. But the Saif Ali Khan-starrer has made just Rs26.62 crore nett at the domestic box office.
