It has been a dull Friday at the box office as the new releases Pihu and Mohalla Assi failed to spark a revival, adding to the dubious returns of Vijay Krishna Acharya’s Thugs Of Hindostan.
With both new releases dealing with serious subjects, the audience seems to have kept away. Vinod Kapri’s Pihu deals with the story of a child locked up in an apartment, while her mother is unconscious. The film has spurred some debate over its depiction of the story, but has earned close to Rs40-45 lakh according to Boxofficeindia.com.

This puts Kapri’s film in the same bracket as Stanley Ka Dabba (2011) and the Rajkummar Rao-starrer Trapped (2017) which earned Rs25 lakh on their first day.
Chandraprakash Dwivedi’s Mohalla Assi has been long delayed, and its subject seems a little dated for the audience. The film collected a mere Rs25 lakh, with a major amount of the collection coming from UP and Delhi.

Meanwhile, the fall of Amitabh Bachchan-Aamir Khan-starrer Thugs Of Hindostan continues unabated. The film’s earnings fell to Rs1.25 crore on Friday. This is almost 50% of its Thursday earning which amounted to Rs2.75 crore approximate.
This puts the overall collection of Thugs Of Hindostan at Rs135.50 crore. The film looks unlikely to breach the Rs150 crore mark at the current rate.
