Arif-ur-Rehman Alvi is a Pakistani Politician and current (13th) President of Pakistan since 9 September 2018. Alvi is a founding member of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI). There are numerous known and unknown facts and words on his life to be unrevealed. Let’s find out.
Arif Alvi was born in 29 July 1949(age 70; as in 2019) in Karachi, Pakistan. Different sources convey diverse information about his birth date. Some resources say it’s 29 August 1949 while some 1947, while his documents say 29 July 1949. After his father’s migration to Karachi, he admitted in Karachi Grammar School but later was expelled. After his early education, he moved to Lahore in 1967 for dentistry. Alvi graduated from De’Montmorency College of Dentistry and had his Master’s Degree in prosthodontics from the University of Michigan in 1975. He even received a Masters degree from the University of the Pacific in San Francisco, California in orthodontics. Subsequently, he set-up Alvi Dental Hospital in Pakistan.

Alvi was born in a Pakistani by Religion and Nationality. His father Habib-ur-Rehman Elahi Alvi, was a dentist in India. Alvi’s father moved to Pakistan after the partition and before that he was the dentist of Jawaharlal Nehru, First Prime Minister of India. Alvi has two siblings; a brother and a sister. Alvi has a wife, Samina Alvi and four children -3 daughters named Naima Alvi Bawany, Marhama Alvi Shah and Radhia Alvi Sumar; and one son.
Alvi was Chairman of the first Pakistan International Dental Conference in 1981 and Third Pakistan International Dental Conference in 1987. Later, in 1997, he became a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics. The constitution of the Pakistan Dental Association was formulated by him before he stood for Presidential Elections.
His Political career was quite eventful. He started with being a polling agent and allied with a religious party. Alvi had been interested in politics since his Bachelor’s Degree when he affiliated with Islami Jamiat Talaba. In 1979, Alvi lost the seat he stood for from the Provincial Assembly of Sindh. After that, he quit the political party,JI and soon joined Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf in 1996. He eventually became the President of PTI Sindh Chapter. In 2001, he got elected as the Vice President of PTI. Alvi lost elections in the Pakistani General Election for the Provincial Assembly of Sindh two times; in 1997 & 2002. He succored as the Secretary General of PTI from 2006-2013. In recent year, 2018, he was re-elected to the National Assembly of Pakistan as a candidate of PTI. He is also elected as the 13th President of Pakistan in September 2018.
