While running an entire business scamming the education system in India, actor Emraan Hashmi’s character Rakesh Singh still has time for romance in this latest song from the film Cheat India.
After appearing in the ‘Daaru Wargi’ video song, this is the first time we see newcomer Shreya Dhanwanthary in her film role.
She didn’t have much of a presence in the film’s trailer or posters, but here, in ‘Dil Mein Ho Tum’, it is established how she fits into Singh’s life. Their meetings occur at college, where they pass each other often. Later they spend time going out on dates, like any other couple.
‘Dil Mein Ho Tum’ borrows the title and a hook line from the 1987 film Satyamev Jayate, which had music by Bappi Lahiri and lyrics by Faruk Kaisar. It has been recreated by Rochak Kohli for Cheat India, with new lyrics by Manoj Muntashir.
In the Vinod Khanna-starrer from 31 years ago, there were three versions of the song, male (sad), female and duet. Lahiri sang the male version of the romantic track and the male portion of the duet himself.
For Cheat India, Armaan Malik has sung the new version. Malik’s soothing vocals complement this number and he is the perfect choice for romantic songs like these.
The song is a pleasant enough listen, never overpowering the listener. It brings to mind a romantic stroll down the beach.
Cheat India, directed by Soumik Sen, is due to be released on 25 January 2019. Watch the new song and the version from Satyamev Jayate below:
