Silent Sonakshi Sinha, pensive Madhuri Dixit

A day after Alia Bhatt’s character poster was introduced on her birthday, 15 March, two more posters have been released highlighting the characters of Sonakshi Sinha and Madhuri Dixit. Sinha plays the enigmatic Satya Chaudhry while Dixit plays the beautiful Bahaar Begum.

Producer Karan Johar said of the regal Begum that she “moves like the wind and her voice flows like a river,” indicating that the veteran actress plays a singer-dancer in the period film.

Meanwhile, from the descriptions about her character who “holds a world of emotions in her eyes,” Sinha seems to be taking up the role of the self-sacrificing woman usually prevalent in stories set in pre-Independence India.

The actress wrote on Twitter of Satya, “A character so pure that I will always cherish playing her!” From the teaser, it seemed as if Satya plays the first wife of Aditya Roy Kapur’s character, Dev, who later marries Alia Bhatt’s Roop.

Kalank, which features music by composer Pritam, is due to be released on 17 April.
