Hellboy’s Ian McShane Predicts John Wick Could Be Around in 10 Years

Ian McShane has his work cut out for him in Neil Marshall‘s new Hellboy movie playing Professor Trevor “Broom” Bruttenholm. Not only does he have to make sure his adopted son, Hellboy (David Harbour), will be able to make it out in the world on his own without dear old dad’s guidance, but they’ve also got to deal with the ultimate threat – the resurrected Blood Queen Nimue (Milla Jovovich), an evil sorceress out for vengeance. As producer Lloyd Levin explained on the set of the film, “We’re using [Nimue] to also play into [Hellboy’s] origin story, his identity story, that she kind of sits on one shoulder and Broom sits on the other in a sense.”

With Hellboy making its way into theaters nationwide on April 12th, I got the chance to sit down with McShane and opted to kick off our conversation with a little “Would You Rather.” One thing lead to another and somehow we also managed to talk about modern filmmaking techniques, his thoughts on the cut of the Deadwood movie he recently caught alongside co-star Timothy Olyphant, and how he thinks the John Wick franchise might still be alive and thriving in 10 years. You can dive into all of that using the video player at the top of this article!

Here is the official synopsis for Hellboy:

Hellboy is back, and he’s on fire. From the pages of Mike Mignola’s seminal work, this action packed story sees the legendary half-demon superhero (David Harbour, “Stranger Things”) called to the English countryside to battle a trio of rampaging giants. There he discovers The Blood Queen, Nimue (Milla Jovovich, Resident Evil series), a resurrected ancient sorceress thirsting to avenge a past betrayal. Suddenly caught in a clash between the supernatural and the human, Hellboy is now hell-bent on stopping Nimue without triggering the end of the world.
