Malvika Raaj was supposed to have made her Hindi debut with the Emraan Hashmi-starrer Captain Nawab in 2017, but the project was shelved. Two years later, the young actress has bounced back from the setback and will now make her Hindi debut with Squad (2019) which introduces Danny Denzongpa’s son Rinzing. She previously acted in the Telugu film Jayadev (2017) with Ghanta Ravi.
Squad, directed by Jyoti Kapur Das, will feature Raaj as a Special Forces sniper Aria. “She’s very knowledgeable about weapons which is important to the storyline. There’s a lot of action and a little bit of romance with Rinzing,” she told the daily tabloid Mumbai Mirror about her role in the upcoming action film.
Mad Max: Fury Road (2015) stunt director Keir Beck will be in charge of Squad’s action sequences.
Rinzing and Malvika are currently training for their parts and the film will begin shooting this April in Mumbai and later move abroad to Budapest, Hungary. The two leads attended the same school and have known each other since they were young.
Raaj is the grand-daughter of late actor Jagdish Raj and joins her aunt Anita Raaj as an actress. Her sister Sonakshi is an established fashion designer. But for film fans of the new millenium, Malvika will always be young ‘Poo’ as she played the younger version of Pooja (Kareena Kapoor’s character) in Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham… (2001).
