Nimrat Kaur returns to Homeland for final season, will reprise role as intelligence officer

Actress Nimrat Kaur is heading back to the small screen for the eighth and final season of the American television series, Homeland, starring Claire Danes and Mandy Patinkin, which airs on Showtime. She had joined the fourth season of the show in 2014 to take on the role of Pakistani intelligence officer Tasneem Qureshi, an adversary to Danes’s Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) officer stationed in Pakistan.

The actress confirmed her return to the show, sharing a working still of herself in character for the series. She wrote, “Back to playing Tasneem Qureshi soon with the brilliant cast and crew of @SHO_Homeland on the series finalé, Season 8. Mean never tasted sohhh gooooood. Statutory warning: Strap up. It ain’t for the faint hearted.”

The Emmy award-winning and Golden Globe-winning series, which first aired in 2011, is based on the Israeli television series Hatufim (Prisoners of War). Homeland is ending its run with an eighth and final season later this year.

“When I joined in season four, it was supposed to be just one season. I was in Los Angeles in September last year when we had a meeting. They told me they plan to write my part back in the final eighth season. I was most excited about this,” the actress told Hindustan Times.

She relished playing a negative character like Qureshi. “I would be behind bars if I did the kind of things I am doing as Tasneem. You can get away with so much on screen. It’s exciting to bring legitimacy to a part that you don’t exactly agree with on any count,” she added in the interview, saying she was attracted to the character written with dignity and elan.
