Parupalli was born on 8 September 1986 in Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh, India. At a very young age, he decided to make his career in badminton. As his father had a transferrable job, he faced lots of difficulties in his career and even once he suffered from Asthma but he never loose hope and with his power and determination, he soon cured from that problem and achieved his goal of becoming a famous badminton player. His biggest achievement was to receive the Arjuna Award from the Government of India.

He is approximately 5’ 8” tall and weighs around 70 kg. His chest is to be around 40 inches, waist 32 inches, and biceps 14 inches. He has dark brown eyes and black hair.

Family & Girlfriend

Parupalli was born in a middle-class Hindu family to Uday Shankar and Subhadra. His sister committed suicide in 2011, who lived alone in Bangalore.

Career

Parupalli Kashyap did his graduation in Commerce. His father enrolled him in a training camp when he was 11. The camp was conducted in Hyderabad by an Indian badminton coach Syed Mohammed Arif. Because of the transferrable job of his father, his family moved to various places. During his stay in Bengaluru, he attended the Prakash Padukone Badminton Academy to receive training in badminton. In 2004, he returned to his native place Hyderabad. At that time, he knew that he was diagnosed with Asthma. With the help of proper treatment, he was cured with this problem and again started getting training in badminton from the Gopichand Badminton Academy in Hyderabad under a former Indian badminton player Pullela Gopichand.

He then played his first match for Andhra Pradesh in 2005 at the National Junior Open Badminton Championships and became the winner of the boys’ singles title. After this, he was chosen for the international tournaments in 2006. In that year, he defeated Przemyslaw Wacha– world number 19 badminton player twice, first at the Hong Kong Open tournament and then, at the Bitburger Open tournament due to which his world ranking reached from 100 to 64.

Instantly, Parupalli chose to represent India for the 2006 Asian Games and won several tournaments. In 2012, his world ranking reached to 19 after he became the first Indian to reach the quarterfinal in men’s singles in the Olympics. In the same year, he reached to 14 after he won the title of Indian Open Grand Prix Gold in men’s singles.

In 2014, he won the gold medal for India in men’s singles after 32 years, because of which, his name was written amongst the two Indian Badminton legends who were also won the gold medal in the same event, Prakash Padukone in 1978 and Syed Modi in 1982.

In 2015, Parupalli Kashyap went to the Indonesia Superseries semifinals, but he could not play due to a severe calf injury.

In 2016, Hyderabad Hunters selected him for the Premier Badminton League (PBL) and he won several tournaments for his team.
