The makers of the biopic of India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi have decided to release the film a week earlier on 5 April. Titled PM Narendra Modi, the film was due to release a week later on 12 April.
The earlier release date of the film was questioned by the media and people on the social media as it fell just a day after the first phase of the Lok Sabha elections commence. But even the new release date falls inside the model code of conduct as it was imposed earlier this month.
However, as per producer Sandeep Ssingh, they have decided to release the film earlier as the excitement for it has gone higher after the nine looks of Vivek Oberoi in the role of Modi were released yesterday. “We are bringing this film a week early on public demand. There is a lot of love and anticipation among the people and we don’t want them to wait longer. This is a story of 1.3 billion people and I can’t wait to show it to them,” said Ssingh in an official statement.
The makers have also released a new poster of the film where Vivek is seen with a group of children dressed in the colours of India.
PM Narendra Modi is directed by Omung Kumar who has earlier helmed biopics like Mary Kom (2014) and Sarbjit (2016). The film is co-produced by Vivek’s father and veteran actor Suresh Oberoi.
The film stars Barkha Bisht Sengupta as Modi’s wife Jashodhaben, Boman Irani as industrialist Ratan Tata and Manoj Joshi as BJP chief Amit Shah.
