You will hardly find many people as talented as Sheryl Crow who is an actress and a versatile singer. She has become popular in different major genres including pop, rock, country, and blues. Named one of the 100 Greatest Women of Rock & Roll, Crow is a multi-Grammy-award-winning singer who began her career in 1987 and has since gotten over 10 albums to her name.

Sheryl Crow Biography

The singer was born Sheryl Suzanne Crow to Wendell and Bernice Crow on February 11, 1962, in Kennett, Missouri. She was raised there alongside two sisters, Kathy and Karen and a brother, Steve.

For her education, Crow went to the Kennett High School and later moved to the University of Missouri in Columbia from where she obtained a music composition degree. Even though music has always been her thing since she was a little girl, Sheryl Crow was into track events when she was in school and was also a majorette.

Before she was through with her education, Crow sang in a band, Cashmere, with which she performed locally. As soon as she was through with her education, she got a job with an elementary school as a music teacher but soon left for Los Angeles to pursue her career in entertainment.

In LA, the first things she got involved in was recording advertising jingles and then working as a backup singer who would later work with people like Michael Jackson, Rod Stewart, and Don Henley.

Before she started her career fully, she joined the band, The Tuesday Music Club in 1991. The band had her then-boyfriend, Kevin Gilbert, David Baerwald, David Ricketts, and Bill Bottrell as members. The band released Tuesday Night Music Club in 1993.

Sheryl got the doors slammed on her by the band after she claimed on Late Show with David Letterman that the band’s Leaving Las Vegas was an autobiographical piece when it was actually a combined effort by the members of the band. It was after this that she went solo and released her first work, Sheryl Crow in 1996. The album won the Best Rock Album of the year at the Grammys while Sheryl was named Best Female Rock Vocal Performance for If It Makes You Happy.

She would go on to release other albums including The Globe Sessions (1998), 100 Miles from Memphis (2010), Feels Like Home (2013), and Be Myself (2017). For her music, she has received a number of awards including the Academy of Country Music Awards, American Music Awards, ASCAP Pop Music Awards, and BRIT Awards. More so, she has been named among the 100 Greatest Women in Music by VH1 in 2012.

Apart from music, she has also done some works as an actress, appearing in movies such as The Minus Man and 54. She has also been on some TV shows such as Cop Rock (1990),
Fairway to Heaven
(1996), and Cougar Town (2010).

Sheryl Crow was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2006 but was able to beat it, thanks to early detection. The diagnosis left her shocked because no one in her family ever had cancer and she believed she was living a very healthy lifestyle.
