The full cast of director Omung Kumar’s biopic on India’s prime minister Narendra Modi has finally been revealed.
Veteran actress Zarina Wahab has been signed on to play the role of the prime minister’s mother Heeraben Modi while TV actress Barkha Bisht has been finalized for the role of his wife Jashodaben.
Speaking about taking on the crucial role, Wahab said, “It’s an honour to play the role of the mother of honourable prime minister Mr Narendra Modi. This is going to be one of the most special roles I have ever played. I hope the audience likes it.”
Talking about the casting of the two primary female characters in the film, titled PM Narendra Modi, producer Sandip Ssingh said in a statement that these are crucial parts in the story.
“These two characters were among the most crucial ones in the film,” Ssingh said. “I am glad that Zarinaji agreed to do it as no one other than her could have done it. Barkha is playing his wife and she is doing a great job. I am happy to have such a powerful and talented cast for this film.”
Earlier this month, the makers had announced that actor Manoj Joshi had been cast to play the role of Narendra Modi lieutenant and BJP president Amit Shah.
The film stars Vivek Oberoi as Modi. His look, which was released last month, drew mixed reactions from the public. Oberoi has already begun shooting for the film in Ahmedabad.
The film also stars Boman Irani, Darshan Kumar and Suresh Oberoi.
Omung Kumar has previously directed the biopic Mary Kom (2014), starring Priyanka Chopra in the title role. His last release was Sanjay Dutt’s comeback film Bhoomi (2017).
Update, 17:25 pm: The last release of Omung Kumar was wrongly mentioned as Jazbaa (2015). The error has been corrected.
