A day after it was announced that ‘October’ girl Banita Sandhu has been signed as the leading lady of Varmaa, the Tamil remake of Arjun Reddy (2017); she has said in a chat with daily The Times of India that she really hopes Varmaa meets the expectations set by Arjun Reddy.
The makers of the film had announced last week that they would be reshoot the entire film after being disappointed with the output delivered by director Bala, who was roped in to helm the project at the behest of actor Vikram.
Varmaa, which was earlier slated for release this March, marks the debut of Vikram’s son Dhruv, who will be reprising Vijay Deverakonda’s role.
Talking to the daily, Sandhu said: “I was approached for a few south and Hindi movies earlier, too. It’s just that I was waiting for the right film and when this offer came, I couldn’t say ‘no’. As far as this project is concerned, the production team expressed their interest to cast me. I have seen Arjun Reddy; I hope our film will be as interesting as the original version and meet the expectations. We haven’t finalised the dates for shooting.”
The makers are yet to officially announce who will direct the new version of the film. However, rumours are doing the rounds that Gautham Menon or debutant Girisayya are being considered to direct the project.
It’s worth mentioning that Girisayya had assisted director Sandeep Reddy Vanga on Arjun Reddy.
Arjun Reddy, which features Vijay Deverakonda in a breakout role, is the story of an obsessive lover with drinking problems.
