Imtiaz Ali is an Indian producer, director and writer who works in Hindi films. During his initial days he used to write and direct television shows. Imtiaz Ali has directed shows like Kurukshetra, Imtehaan and Naina. He made his Bollywood directorial debut with film Socha na Tha in the year 2005 which did not go well at the box office. He earned success only after the direction of film Jab We Met. People noticed his work in films like Rockstar and Love Aaj Kal.

Imtiaz Ali was born in Jamshedpur and brought up in Patna. His father Mansoor Ali worked for the Irrigation department. During his schooling days he stayed at his Aunt’s place in Jamshedpur. Near the place there was a cinema hall where he used to watch films for free.
He was not good at studies and failed in 9th standard but he did not give up studies and went for civil studies in Delhi. But while completing his studies he developed interest for drama and took up the filmmaking course. Imtiaz Ali was then hired by Kunal Kohli at Zee TV with a salary of 1500 rupees.
