Director Sagar Vanjari’s Redu received critical acclaim when it was released last year. The film, starring Shashank Shende and Chhaya Kadam, was also appreciated in the international film festival circuit.
The filmmaker is back with his next, titled Rapan. The film is produced by Blink Motion Pictures, that was one of the producers of Redu.
While the cast and release date of the film have not been revealed yet, the makers released a motion poster. It was shared on Rapan’s official Facebook page with the caption, “New year.. new beginning… New aspirations… rising above the horizon…. #RAPAN !!” The word rapan means fishing in dialects of Marathi, including Konkani.
The sketch of a boat quickly turns into a real visual, shot using a drone. The title and motion picture are an indication that the film could be set in a fishing community along the Konkan coast. The scenery is pleasing to the eyes and the Western orchestral background score is an interesting element to what could be a rural tale.
The imagery of the boat is also a quick reminder of the recently released box office disaster, Hindi film Thugs Of Hindostan.
Rapan is written by Prasad Namjoshi, who also wrote and directed the acclaimed Rangaa Patangaa (2016) starring Makarand Anaspure and Sagar Pathak.
