Euphoria Trailer Reveals HBO’s Trippy Teen Drama

HBO has released the first full-length trailer for Euphoria, the ensemble teen drama headlined by Zendaya (Spider-Man: Far From Home), Maude Apatow (Girls), and Sydney Sweeney (Sharp Objects). Created by Sam Levinson and based on the Israeli series of the same name, the series follows a crew of high schoolers as they navigate the high-highs and low-lows of drugs, sex, and Twitter notifications. (Drake is also an executive producer, so take that as you will.)

Visually, I can’t help but feel this looks like…prestige Riverdale? That might actually be a compliment. To be honest, for all the quality stuff HBO has been putting out over the years, the network has been missing a straight-up story about The TeensPlus, Zendaya is great; most know her from the MCU’s Spider-Man movies, of course, but I cannot recommend season 2 of Netflix’s The OA enough as a primer for the musician/actress doing something a lot stranger.

Check out the trailer below. Euphoria debuts on HBO Sunday, June 16.

Here is the official synopsis for Euphoria:

Following a group of high school students as they navigate love and friendships in a world of drugs, sex, trauma and social media, the series will be executive produced by Drake, along with manager Future the Prince. The ensemble cast includes: actor and singer Zendaya, Maude Apatow (Girls), Angus Cloud, Eric Dane, Alexa Demie, Jacob Elordi, Barbie Ferreira, Nika King, Storm Reid, Hunter Schafer, Algee Smith and Sydney Sweeney (Sharp Objects).

Euphoria is an American adaptation of an Israeli show of the same name, and all episodes are written by Sam Levinson (Assassination Nation), who also serves as executive producer. The series will be produced in partnership with A24 (Lady Bird, Random Acts of Flyness, 2 Dope Queens, Pod Save America) and includes executive producers Ravi Nandan, Kevin Turen, Hadas Mozes Lichtenstein, Tmira Yardeni, Mirit Toovi, Yoram Mokadi and Gary Lennon. Ron Leshem and Daphna Levin, who created the Israeli series, are also set to executive produce.
