The motion poster of Dhrubo Banerjee’s upcoming film Durgeshgorer Guptodhon (2019) is out now. The second instalment of the treasure hunt franchise will feature Abir Chatterjee as the history professor-turned-explorer Sona Da. Arjun Chakraborty and Ishaa Saha will be reprising their roles as Abir and Jhinuk respectively.
Subarna Sen aka Sona Da was seen unearthing the treasures of Manikantapur in the first instalment, Guptodhoner Sondhane (2018), along with Abir and Jhinuk. In Durgeshgorer Guptodhon, the trio will continue with their hunt in another historically rich location from Bengal-Durgeshgor.
However, the motion poster, featuring a giant conch shell emerging underwater, with fish swimming across, hints that this time Sona Da’s hunt will not be restricted to land only.
According to a report in The Times of India, the director said, “Just like Indiana Jones searches only for mythical treasures, Sona Da looks for treasure within Bengal with the help of the state’s history.”
Banerjee also stated that the music of the film, composed by Bickram Ghosh, has an important role to play in the film. Each of the songs is designed for the crucial points of the hunt and according to the director, the story cannot be told without the songs.
In Durgeshgorer Guptodhon, Sona Da visits the ancestral home of one of his students in Durgeshgor, along with Abir and Jhinuk. The great-grandfather of the student was an erstwhile zamindar and a renowned artiste of Bengal.
The present generation believes that there is a myth of a treasure being received by the family long ago but all its traces have vanished. As Sona Da and his gang extend their stay at the mansion and enjoy the festivities, they start bumping into clues that eventually lead them to the treasure.
The film also features Anindya Chatterjee, Kaushik Sen, Kharaj Mukherjee, June Malia, Aryann, Arindam Sil, Kamaleswar Mukherjee and Joydeep Kundu in important roles.
Durgeshgorer Guptodhon is slated for release this May.
