Santosh Juvekar, Makarand Deshpande ponder over Shivaji’s ideologies

Director Khushal Mhetre’s Chhatrapati Shasan speaks about Shivaji Maharaj’s heroics and ideologies in today’s times. The film is based in today’s era and is a political drama. But, going by its recently released trailer, Shivaji is present throughout the film.

It is difficult to make out the story of the film from the trailer. In fact, the trailer is more like a teaser that lacks proper flow.

The film stars known names like Santosh Juvekar, Kishore Kadam and Makarand Deshpande. Juvekar seems to be playing a feared politician. All the main characters are seen speaking about Shivaji. One question that keeps coming up is: how much does one know Shivaji?

This is Mhetre’s first film as a writer, director and producer.

For generations, Shivaji’s name has been considered an inspiration, especially for Marathi youngsters. But not many films are made on him or his ideologies in Marathi. Last year there was the much-appreciated Farzand (2018) by Digpal Lanjekar. However, the film centred more around the titular character of Farzand.

Chhatrapati Shasan will be released on 15 March.
