Singer Akhil’s ‘Khaab’ gets lost in translation

After ‘Coca Cola’, ‘Poster Lagwa Do’, ‘Photo Song’, ‘Tu Laung Main Elaachi’, Kriti Sanon and Kartik Aaryan’s Luka Chuppi has one more remake. All the songs released so far have been remakes. Composer Abhijit Vaghani has taken popular Punjabi song ‘Khaab’ and turned into ‘Duniyaa’ for Luka Chuppi.

The Punjabi song was written by Raja, composed by Bob and crooned by Akhil. For the remake, Kunaal Vermaa has penned the lyrics, Vaghani has composed the score and Akhil is accompanied by Dhvani Bhanushali on the vocals. Bhrigu Parashar has been credited for additional vocals.

After hearing both the tracks, we deduce that the beautiful original Punjabi song is lost in translation in Luka Chuppi’s ‘Duniyaa’. While it’s fine to change the lyrics for the Hindi listeners, the essence of the original must not be compromised. Vermaa’s lyrics don’t have the same impact as the original.

The remake works because of Vaghani’s soothing soft pop score. Akhil’s tone comes like a breath of fresh air, while Bhanushali’s voice is fairly intoxicating. The voice toward the end seems to be Bhrigu Parashar’s and that’s when the song is most enjoyable.

The original had an emotional angle as Akhil learns sign language to please the deaf and mute girl. The Luka Chuppi song captures the tender, romantic moments between Guddu (Aaryan) and Rashmi (Kriti Sanon).

Compared to the original, the remake doesn’t have the same appeal.

Luka Chuppi is set to be released on 1 March.
