Suriya’s film with KV Anand titled Kaappaan

Following their successful collaboration in films such as Ayan (2009) and Maattrraan (2012), Suriya and filmmaker KV Anand have joined hands for third time for an action-thriller, which has been titled Kaappaan.

The makers unveiled the title and two posters on the occasion of New Year on Tuesday. The film’s title, which means to save or protect, is a clear indication that Suriya essays the rumoured role of a bodyguard on a mission to save Mohanlal, who plays the prime minister.

The rumours about the film’s title have been doing the rounds for quite some time now. Amid many speculations regarding the title, Anand last week took to Twitter to run a poll with three title options and asked fans to choose from them. The three options mentioned were Meetpaan, Kaappaan and Uirka. Anand also revealed that Kaanjagan was the fourth title option while replying to a fan’s tweet.

The title option Uirka won the poll with majority of votes; however, Anand said that the title will be unveiled on 1 January 2019 and thanked fans for their participation in the poll.

Kaappaan has been shot in nearly 10 countries including places like New York, Brazil, England, Hyderabad and New Delhi. The film, being made on a lavish budget, is touted to be the costliest project in Suriya’s career. Anand revealed that the last schedule of the film will begin from 19 January.

The film, produced by Lyca Productions, also stars Arya, Sayyeshaa, Boman Irani and Samuthirakani in key roles. Arya, who will be seen sharing screen space with Suriya for the first time, is rumoured to be playing the antagonist. The film has music by Harris Jayaraj.
