Yash Dholye, Mohammad Samad play brothers trying out for India’s under-19 cricket team

In Tumbbad (2018), young actor Mohammad Samad played the son of lead character Vinayak (Sohum Shah), expected to carry on tradition in the fantasy horror film. In the upcoming Netflix series, Selection Day, adapted from author Aravind Adiga’s novel of the same name, he plays the 14-year-old son Manju, who has another complicated relationship with his father.

The first teaser of the series shows Rajesh Tailang as the father of brothers Manju and Radha (Yash Dholye). His fervent wish is to see his boys selected for the under-19 national cricket team and with the selection day for the team fast approaching in Mumbai, his dream might come true.

Except only one of his sons actually likes the game. While older brother Radha is ready to step into the role his father has expected of him, Manju is not. When they move to Mumbai, Manju’s ambitions move further away from those of his brother and father.

Produced by Seven Stories Ltd and Anil Kapoor Film & Communication Network Pvt. Ltd, Selection Day also stars Mahesh Manjrekar and Ratna Pathak Shah in key roles.
